Flag of Ecuador

The flag of Ecuador was adopted on September 26, 1860. It consists of three horizontal stripes of yellow, blue, and green colors. The state flag, unlike the civil one, includes the coat of arms of Ecuador. Although the designer of the flag claims to have been inspired by Goethe and the symbolism of colors in his works, these colors hold a strong national significance for Ecuadorians. According to them, yellow symbolizes agriculture and wealth, blue represents the ocean and the sky, while red honors those who have sacrificed their lives for freedom.
